The challenge
Hookdeck, a Quebec-based startup providing webhook infrastructure, used Aiven for PostgreSQL as its primary store, but tables reached up to 500 million rows for just the last 30 days of data. PostgreSQL did not operate well with datasets that large and storage costs were rising, while customer-facing analytics dashboards needed to query huge volumes of data in real time.
The solution
Hookdeck built a data stack on Aiven, moving analytical workloads onto Aiven for ClickHouse and using Aiven for Apache Kafka and Kafka Connect for streaming, alongside Aiven for PostgreSQL, Grafana and OpenSearch.

The results, in context
Hookdeck reported that Aiven for ClickHouse delivered a 30x performance uplift, with histograms for larger workspaces that previously took around 30 seconds now loading far faster. The data in ClickHouse uses 700 gigabytes of storage compared with the 1.5 terabytes required in PostgreSQL, halving the storage requirement. Hookdeck sustained 60,000 messages a second via Kafka Connect, backed by Aiven's 99.99% uptime guarantee.
