Case Study: North projects $1.4M in annual efficiency gains after centralizing governance on Atlan
Key results
The challenge
North, a payments solutions provider, managed roughly 225,000 data assets across 41 terabytes. As adoption grew, the core problem became how to find data and govern it well, leaving teams to navigate the estate manually and repeat tedious research.
The solution
North deployed Atlan as a central catalog and governance layer over Snowflake and Sigma, integrating both in a couple of hours and adding more than 2,000 governance assets within a year. Teams used Atlan filters to replace manual research and deprecated idle assets.
“That's $1.4 million of duplicate work, manual and tedious research. That's time we can now spend on changing things, versus trying to navigate data like it's the internet in 1997.”
DDDaniel DowdyVice President of Data Analytics and Governance, North
The results, in context
North projected $1.4 million in annual efficiency gains from eliminating duplicate and manual research work, alongside a 700% increase in tagged Snowflake assets and 200% year-over-year growth in Sigma adoption. Deprecating more than 10,000 idle assets produced over $20,000 in annual cost savings. Figures are quoted from Atlan's published story and dated.
