Case Study: TMX Group speeds infrastructure provisioning 75% with Terraform and Vault
Key results
The challenge
TMX Group, operator of the Toronto Stock Exchange and other markets with listed companies totaling roughly $3 trillion in market capitalization, was not realizing the efficiencies it expected from cloud operations. The team needed a more module-friendly approach to build reusable infrastructure that was pre-approved for security and compliance guidelines.
The solution
TMX adopted HashiCorp Terraform to build reusable, pre-approved infrastructure modules and Vault to automate secrets and access-key management, with Terraform configuring Vault so end users could manage their own access keys within guardrails.
“The vision with tools like Terraform and Vault isn't unique to cloud. The technology is so flexible and applicable to other areas of our business that we're eager to share our learnings with colleagues across the organization.”
